The Mater Dei Knights are on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Highland Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Mater Dei focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
Mater Dei fought the good fight in their overtime match against Marquette Catholic but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Explorers by a score of 51-49.
Despite their loss, Mater Dei saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nick Lampe, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals, was perhaps the best of all. Drake Wagner was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Highland came up short against Belleville East on Tuesday and fell 62-51. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while Belleville East is ranked 133rd).
Marion's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Mater Dei's loss dropped theirs to 2-4.
Mater Dei came up short against Highland in their previous meeting back in February, falling 49-36. Can Mater Dei avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
