The South Jefferson Spartans fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Massena Raiders on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 55-53.
Leading Massena to victory were Taylor Mitchell and Colin Patterson. Mitchell scored 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Patterson scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Patterson has scored all season.
South Jefferson has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Massena, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
South Jefferson's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Cyclones at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. As for Massena, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Ogdensburg Free Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 657th, while the Raiders are ranked 277th).
