1A Conference 3 recap October 22, 2013
Bessemer City's Jha'Qui Adams recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Conference 3 this season in his game against Pine Lake Prep last week. Adams' team beat the Pride as he sprinted for 85 yards on the play and finished with 103 in all.
Pine Lake Prep fell to Bessemer City 67-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Cedric Mackey was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 154 yards as Larry Boone's team fell to Community School of Davidson. Teammate Kevin Goodwin added to the ground attack by rushing for 122 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Gryphons' Mason Martin and Efrim Borders have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Martin has thrown for 986 yards this season, while Borders has 28 catches for 517 yards. Mackey from the Yellowjackets leads the league in rushing with 1,009 yards.
The top two teams in 1A Conference 3 will face off this week when first place Thomas Jefferson Academy takes on second place Bessemer City. Last week, Thomas Jefferson Academy lost to Community School of Davidson, while Bessemer City bested Jason Moore's team.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Jerry Cash's team and the Yellowjackets face off next week.
