Sargent were fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Del Norte 65-18. Followers of Sargent probably expected little less of the team in a season in which they have collected four blowout victories.
The contest started off well for Sargent, whose offense put up 32 first-half points. Del Norte countered with 12 points, leaving the score at 32-12 going into the half. Sargent put the contest away in the third quarter with 27 points from the offense and six points allowed from the defense.
Senior Frank Torrez was the offensive standout of the match for Sargent, as he rushed for 100 yards and 4 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Torrez's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past eight games. Senior Eddy Gonzalez was in the mix, too, providing Sargent with two touchdowns.
The victory (their 5th in a row) raised Sargent's record to 6-2. Del Norte's defeat makes it five in a row and drags their record down to 1-7.
It's more conference action for Sargent and Del Norte in their upcoming matches. Sargent will take on Sanford at home at 6:00 PM next week. Sargent will be strutting in after a win while Sanford will be stumbling in from a loss. As for Del Norte, they will go up against Sangre de Cristo.
