Marana is on a seven-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Cholla a five-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Marana Tigers will take on the Cholla Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, things could have been worse for Marana, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-38 loss to Ironwood Ridge. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Marana in their matchups with Ironwood Ridge: they've now lost six in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Adrian Griffin, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. She scored a full 52.6% of Marana's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kameran Coto, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Marana were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cholla suffered a tough 55-34 defeat at the hands of Buena on Tuesday.
Marana's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Cholla, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Marana against Cholla in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 59-22 win. Does Marana have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cholla turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
