Baseball Game Preview: Hackberry Mustangs vs. Elton Indians

The Hackberry Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Elton Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hackberry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

The home team had come away the winner the last three times Hackberry and Singer had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Hackberry put the hurt on Singer with a sharp 14-6 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won three in a row.

Jacob Talotta made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5. He has become a key player for Hackberry: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Derek Murphy was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaston Moore, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5.

Hackberry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elton). They came out on top in a nail-biter against V.B. Glencoe Charter on Thursday, sneaking past 13-12. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.

Hackberry's record is now 3-6. As for Elton, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4.

Hackberry took their victory against Elton in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0. Does Hackberry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
