The Anzar Hawks won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. Their tough 47-27 defeat to Kirby Prep might stick with them for a while. Anzar was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kirby Prep apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Kirby Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nate Kawasaki, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Kawasaki is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Rain Li was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Anzar's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Kirby Prep, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Anzar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kirby Prep, Kirby Prep and Pacific Collegiate will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pacific Collegiate has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
