The Waverly Vikings pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Wahoo 65-59. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Wahoo is ranked eighth).
When it comes to explaining why Waverly lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keaton Rine. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rine has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ashton Heffelfinger, who scored 13 points.
Waverly bumped their record down to 4-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Wahoo, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will take on Elkhorn North at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Wahoo, they will be playing at home against Blair at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Blair focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Tuesday.
