The Sunnyside Wildcats came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 60-52 win over Torres. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Toros are ranked 796th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunnyside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cj Jones, who scored 19 points. Jones hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Tanner Wilson, who scored 18 points.
Sunnyside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Torres, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunnyside will take on the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hoover's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 15 matchups. As for Torres, they will be playing at home against the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sanger West is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
