Basketball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Greater Grace Christian Academy's Winning Streak

After flying high against Curtis Baptist last Wednesday, Greater Grace Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Greater Grace Christian Academy Eagles fell just short of Genoa Christian Academy by a score of 50-48 on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 26th in Maryland, while Genoa Christian Academy are ranked 293rd in Ohio).

When it comes to explaining why Greater Grace Christian Academy lost, don't look at Nickole Lee. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points. That was a full 47.9% of Greater Grace Christian Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row Lee has earned more than a third of the team's points. Bella Pellegrino was another key player, putting up eight points.

Leading Genoa Christian Academy to victory were Leah Kinley and Reagan Schuck. Kinley put up 19 points and five boards, while Schuck had 19 points and four blocks. Kinley's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

The loss snapped Greater Grace Christian Academy's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 23-3 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for Genoa Christian Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Greater Grace Christian Academy has already played their next contest, a 51-35 defeat against Tri-Cities Christian on the 7th. As for Genoa Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-48 loss against TPLS Christian Academy on the 7th.
