Desert Pines is 8-1 against the Wildcats since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Desert Pines Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Las Vegas Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Monday, Desert Pines faced the Aggies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Desert Pines fell 68-61 to the Aggies. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, Las Vegas pushed their score all the way to 65 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 90-65 defeat at the hands of Bishop Gorman. Las Vegas has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Las Vegas had strong showings from Tayshaun Jackson, who scored 24 points along with two steals, and Bryce Davis, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 36.9% of Las Vegas' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Mcgee, who scored eight points.
Desert Pines has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Las Vegas, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14.
Desert Pines strolled past the Wildcats when the teams last played back in January of 2020 by a score of 67-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Pines since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
