It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Putnam County War Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Jasper County 73-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Landon Bonner, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Banks, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Putnam County's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Jasper County, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Putnam County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Hancock Central at 7:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Hancock Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 482nd, while Putnam County is ranked 57th). Jasper County will be home for the holidays to greet Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
