Baseball Recap: Douglas Has No Trouble Against Amphitheater

Douglas never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Amphitheater Panthers with a sharp 20-0 win. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Rafael Buzane made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Jose Ivan Higuera and Emiliano Fimbres dominated on the mound. Higuera went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Fimbres went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Higuera has posted since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Christopher Escarcega, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Robert Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Douglas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Douglas' record is now 13-8-1. As for Amphitheater, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coming up, Douglas is taking a road trip to take on Cholla at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Amphitheater, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sahuarita at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
