Even though the Independence Falcons scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, the Sunnyside Wildcats still came out on top. Sunnyside came out on top in a nail-biter against Independence and snuck past 59-56. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sunnyside also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2017.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunnyside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malachi Barnes, who scored 18 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Barnes has scored at least 25% of Sunnyside's points. DJ Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Sunnyside will head out on the road to face off against McLane at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. McLane will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Independence, they will be playing at home against Highland at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
