III Section I recap September 4, 2013
Sunrise Mountain's Corey Brown rumbled for the longest rushing play in III Section I this season in his game against Ironwood last week. Brown's team bested the Eagles as he sprinted for 89 yards on the play and finished with 204 in all.
Goldwater moved up to 112 from 139 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs were able to make move up by topping Shadow Mountain 26-21.
Peoria's dynamic duo of Dillon Gragnano and Darius Aguirre proved to be unstoppable against Agua Fria, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gragnano threw for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns and Aguirre had 55 yards receiving.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Gragnano and Aguirre proved tough for the Owls to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Brown was the best running back in the league this week. Garrett Weissinger also contributed to the rushing game with 90 yards on the ground.
David Scott was a key player and the best on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain topped Ironwood. The 5-foot-9 defensive back.
Aguirre was the best receiver in III Section I this week as Peoria beat Agua Fria.
Gragnano put up the best numbers through the air as the Panthers topped Tony Cluff's team.
Kooper Ray was a passing and rushing force as Goldwater defeated the Matadors. He completed 9 passes for 79 yards and also ran for 176 yards. Ray's key target this week was Ronnie Reed, who caught 3 passes for 35 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Aguirre. The Peoria star has 5 catches for 55 yards.
Cactus was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. The Cobras vanquished Thunderbird 16-11 earlier in the week.
