The Hampshire Trojans lost a heartbreaker to the James Wood Colonels when they met back in January of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. Hampshire fell just short of the Colonels by a score of 40-37. Hampshire has not had much luck with the Colonels recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Leading James Wood to victory were Josie Russell and Brooklynn Medina. Russell scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Medina scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Medina has scored at least a third of James Wood's points. Another player making a difference was Nayah Edwards, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Hampshire's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-7. As for James Wood, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Hampshire will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on February 12th. As for James Wood, they will be playing at home against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Colonels in their respective states (the Patriots are ranked 36th in West Virginia, while the Colonels are ranked 199th in Virginia).
