Carmel is 6-1 against North Rockland since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Carmel Rams will be playing at home against the North Rockland Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Carmel will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Carmel strolled past Yonkers Force [Gorton/Roosevelt/Yonkers Montessori Academy/Yonkers] with points to spare, taking the game 43-27. Given Carmel's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Yonkers Force [Gorton/Roosevelt/Yonkers Montessori Academy/Yonkers] is ranked 398th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carmel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristan Cash Werlau, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Another player making a difference was Christian Nunez, who threw for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes.
Meanwhile, North Rockland got themselves on the board against White Plains on Friday, but White Plains never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 21-0 win. The win was just what North Rockland needed coming off of a 34-13 loss in their prior match.
North Rockland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gamie Sauveur led the charge by rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown. Jaquan Johnson was another key contributor, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Carmel to 5-1 and North Rockland to 5-2.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Cash Werlau and Sauveur. Cash Werlau has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 127.5 rushing yards per game this season. For his part, Sauveur has averaged 97.9 rushing yards per game this season.
Everything came up roses for Carmel against North Rockland in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 38-0 victory. Does Carmel have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Rockland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
