The Mathews Blue Devils will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Surry County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Mathews is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 110-47, which was the final score in Mathews' tilt against the Wolverines on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mathews in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 67-39, which was the final score in Surry County's tilt against the Broncos on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Surry County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 411th, while the Broncos are ranked 165th).
Mathews has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Surry County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-17.
Mathews was able to grind out a solid victory over the Cougars when the teams last played back in December of 2016, winning 69-61. Will Mathews repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
