Glenn extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 8-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Statesville Greyhounds. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bobcats have suffered since March 25, 2025.

Derrick Stevens was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Glenn: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brydon Holyfield was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Glenn is 6-2 when Holyfield posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryson Horn, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Statesville's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Glenn, Statesville also got a great game from a two-way player: Boomer Lewis. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lewis was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Price Hedrick was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Caleb Mallacoccio also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Coming up, Glenn will venture away from home to face off against Oak Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Statesville, they will challenge Elkin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucking Elks have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
