Last Tuesday, May River was able to grind out a solid win over Colleton County, taking the game 37-26. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points May River has scored all season.
May River got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brooke Dalton out in front who scored 16 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Ashleigh Williams, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. Their rough 66-45 loss to Lucy Beckham might stick with them for a while. Hilton Head Island was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-13.
The losing side was boosted by Amaya Wroten, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Leah Jackson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Hilton Head Island struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
May River pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Hilton Head Island, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: May River have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 32.7% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Hilton Head Island, though, as they've only made 24.7% of their threes per game this season. Given May River's sizeable advantage in that area, Hilton Head Island will need to find a way to close that gap.
May River lost to Hilton Head Island at home by a decisive 39-22 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can May River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
