It was a good run, but BASIS - Mesa unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 40-33 to BASIS - Scottsdale. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for BASIS - Mesa in their matchups with BASIS - Scottsdale: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why BASIS - Mesa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cayden Plese. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Plese is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Yang, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead BASIS - Scottsdale to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blake Tropper, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jacob Shamoun, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
BASIS - Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for BASIS - Scottsdale, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. BASIS - Mesa will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Academy with Community Partners at 6:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
