Avon has gone 8-1 against Westfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Orioles will face off against the Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. Avon has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Avon barely beat Silver Creek the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Orioles put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 22-12 victory on Saturday. The Orioles have beaten the Dragons the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Dragons has come to flipping the script.
Brinley Pope made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Willow Harvey was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Zoey Chavez was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Avon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .459 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Westfield fell victim to Western and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-0. The Shamrocks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shea Vohs was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Westfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Watson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Avon's record is now 7-16. As for Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Avon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avon came out on top in a nail-biter against Westfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
