The Schley County Wildcats are on the road again on Friday and play against the Lincoln County Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Greenville scored an imposing 32 points two weeks ago, Schley County still came out on top. Schley County claimed a resounding 63-32 victory over Greenville on the road. Given Schley County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Greenville is ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Schley County had a senior duo take command as Jay Kanazawa threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes and Jalewis Solomon picked up 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Greenville to a paltry 226 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Schley County's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. Trenton Stubbs was especially locked on to Greenville's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lincoln County had no problem doing just that on Friday. They didn't even let Wilkinson County onto the board and left with a 41-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for Lincoln County who now have three in a row.
Semaj Jenkins and Mekhi Wade were among the main playmakers for Lincoln County as the former rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 64 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Schley County pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Chattahoochee County and 2-8 Taylor County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.5% over those games). As for Lincoln County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Schley County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lincoln County struggles in that department as they've been even better at 176.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
