The Maryvale Prep Matador's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. Their rough 68-47 defeat to BASIS Phoenix might stick with them for a while. Maryvale Prep was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Firebirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
BASIS Phoenix was led to victory by Arjun Sudalaimuthu and Atharsh Ramkumar. Sudalaimuthu scored nine points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Ramkumar scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Sudalaimuthu posted eight or more assists. Uzayr Ansari was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Maryvale Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for BASIS Phoenix, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maryvale Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Pumas at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Sequoia Pathway Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for BASIS Phoenix, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Phoenix Christian will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
