The South Cougars are on the road again on Friday and play against the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. South will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Kapaun Mt. Carmel is ranked 16th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 66-19, which was the final score in South's tilt against Maize South on Friday. South was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.
Dawson Dooley put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 145 receiving yards and a touchdown.

South's loss was their 17th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-1 Maize and 12-1 Maize (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.4% over those games). As for Kapaun Mt. Carmel, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
South was taken down by Kapaun Mt. Carmel 74-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2020. Thankfully for South, Andrew Gimino (who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also caught a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
