Headland has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Pike County Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of these teams found much success offensively their last time out, scoring well below their season average.
Headland suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Carroll at home and fell 55-19. While losing is never fun, Headland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Carroll is ranked 134th).
Pike County lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were beaten by New Brockton 69-17. Pike County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-8.
Headland's loss was their tenth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-17. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.4 points per game. As for Pike County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-13.
Headland came out on top in a nail-biter against Pike County in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, sneaking past 44-42. Will Headland repeat their success, or does Pike County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
