On Wednesday, Batesville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-51 to Scottsburg. While losing is never fun, Batesville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Scottsburg is ranked 23rd).
Despite the defeat, Batesville saw an underclassman step up: Kaylin Kathman scored 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Claire Saner, who scored eight points.
Batesville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Scottsburg, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Batesville won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Kokomo at 11:00 a.m. on December 28, 2023. Hopefully Kokomo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. Scottsburg will finish 2023 at home by hosting Columbus North at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Columbus North is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
