Basketball Game Preview: Sammamish RedHawks vs. Skyline Spartans

The Sammamish RedHawks will head out to square off against the Skyline Spartans at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Sammamish is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bellevue Christian on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Sammamish lost 60-35 to Bellevue Christian. While losing is never fun, the RedHawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Vikings are ranked 25th).

Despite the loss, Sammamish had strong showings from Tezi Lyons, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards, and Sophia Eastman, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Eastman is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Even though they lost, Sammamish smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Skyline was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-32 heartbreaker at the hands of North Creek. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Skyline's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Sammamish, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Sammamish came up short against Skyline in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 48-36. Can Sammamish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
