Basketball Recap: East Rutherford Skates Past Chase with Ease

East Rutherford won against Brevard last Friday with 66 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The East Rutherford Cavaliers took their matchup with ease, bagging a 66-12 victory over the Chase Trojans. That looming 66-12 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cavaliers yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Rutherford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Faith Smith, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zilah Dewberry, who went 6 for 12 en route to 16 points and six steals.

East Rutherford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

East Rutherford's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-12. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.8 points per game. As for Chase, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Rutherford will head out to face off against Patton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. East Rutherford is facing Patton at the right time seeing as Patton is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Chase, they will take on Hendersonville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hendersonville will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Chase surely won't give up without a fight.
