La Joya is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Coyotes will host the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
La Joya's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Economedes with a sharp 11-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Coyotes considering their one-run performance the match before.
Hunter Morales tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Ivan Marron was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Samuel De Leon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
La Joya always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pharr-San Juan-Alamo). Everything went their way against Edinburg North on Thursday as they made off with a 22-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bears with their most commanding win of the season.
Jacob Delgadillo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo got a massive performance out of James Cansino, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Cansino a new career-high. TJ Ayala was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
La Joya has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, their victory bumped their record up to 23-2-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Joya hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Pharr-San Juan-Alamo struggles in that department as they've averaged .390. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Joya couldn't quite finish off Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
