The Middletown Blue Dragons waltzed into their matchup Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Berlin 55-52. This was payback for Middletown, who suffered a 53-48 loss the last time these two teams met.
Middletown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Studinski, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Shalyn Smith was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight assists.
Several Redcoats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooke Walker, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Walker, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Middletown's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Berlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Middletown will look to defend their home court on Monday against Conard at 6:45 p.m. Conard will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Berlin, they will head out on the road to face off against Bristol Central at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
