The Southern Wayne Saints are taking a road trip to take on the Midway Raiders at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
Southern Wayne saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of East Duplin by a score of 6-5.
Hayden Waller put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Waller wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden McKee, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Cameron Beasley also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Midway waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Golden Falcons. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by just one run.
Like Southern Wayne, Midway also got a great game from a two-way player: Wesley Tew. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, Tew posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Cameron Register looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Luke Peterson was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Midway's record now sits at 14-6. As for Southern Wayne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Southern Wayne might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Midway in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
