The Hunt Warriors pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Wake. Hunt has not had much luck with East Wake recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Hunt saw an underclassman step up: Austin Joyner scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Na'sir Hines, who scored ten points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Wake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nikel Rogers, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 1 assist. Rogers hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Donovan Majette, who scored 16 points along with two steals and two blocks.
East Wake used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Hunt. Three players got more time on the court than they're used to: Jamal Taybron (39), Rogers (36), and Deion Perry (12). The trio had averaged 20.5, 17.25, and 6.42 minutes respectively before Tuesday's match. The pair took full advantage of the opportunity: Taybron almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists, while he went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 1 assist.
Hunt's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. As for East Wake, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Hunt will head out on the road to take on South Johnston at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
