The Bishop Verot Vikings will be taking part in a tournament against the Southwest Florida Christian King at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bishop Verot comes in on eight and Southwest Florida Christian on four.
Bishop Verot is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over Wesley Chapel on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Tyler Reeder tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Rardin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Chalder, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Bishop Verot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wesley Chapel only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Southwest Florida Christian sidestepped LaBelle for a 3-2 win.
Southwest Florida Christian also got a great performance from Ian Long as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, Long gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Lawson Polhill was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Bishop Verot pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Everything went Bishop Verot's way against Southwest Florida Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2021, as Bishop Verot made off with a 10-3 victory.
