With a playoff game on the line, the Tocoi Creek Toros rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 63-56. The victory was nothing new for Tocoi Creek as they're now sitting on five straight.
Tocoi Creek found their leader in underclassman Audrey Beyer, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Beyer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabi Iturralde, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Mandarin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ny'keria Thomas. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Thomas is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Mia Chandler, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Mandarin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Tocoi Creek racked up 13 assists.
Tocoi Creek has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Mandarin, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Tocoi Creek will face off against Atlantic Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Tocoi Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. Mandarin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
