Republic is 1-9 against Webb City since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Republic Tigers will square off against the Webb City Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Republic walked away with it. They walked away with a 28-21 win over the Crusaders on Saturday.
Wyatt Woods looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Webb City faced Grain Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Webb City took down Grain Valley 49-35 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Webb City found their leader in underclassman Gabe Johnson, who rushed for 288 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 16.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown on only eight passes. Johnson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 90-yard run. Omari Jackson was in the mix as well, providing Webb City with two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Republic to 11-2 and Helias to 10-2.
Republic might still be hurting after the 42-21 defeat they got from Webb City in their previous matchup back in September. Can Republic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
