Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Piner's Winning Streak

If Piner was riding high fresh off their 62-42 takedown of Elsie Allen last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Piner Prospectors fell 53-45 to the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs on Tuesday. The Prospectors' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Several Prospectors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Coester, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Coester has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Hernandez, who put up 11 points and seven boards.

St. Vincent de Paul's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Ellis, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Chelew was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Piner's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-9. As for St. Vincent de Paul, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-8.

Piner has already played their next contest (against Healdsburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. St. Vincent de Paul will be playing in front of their home fans against Rancho Cotate at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rancho Cotate knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully St. Vincent de Paul likes a good challenge.
