Purnell Swett is a perfect 10-0 against Hoke County since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rams will take on the Bucks at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Purnell Swett has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, Purnell Swett had just enough and edged out Lumberton 3-2.
Braci Woods tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Chloe Chavis was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Purnell Swett hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lumberton struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Hoke County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Patriots an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Bucks have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Niya Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKenzie Freeman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Alyssa Cascavilla was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Hoke County pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Purnell Swett, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Everything went Purnell Swett's way against Hoke County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Purnell Swett made off with a 12-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
