Denmark-Olar is 2-7 against Calhoun County since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Denmark-Olar Vikings will look to defend their home court against the Calhoun County Saints at 8:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Denmark-Olar entered their tilt with Blackville-Hilda with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Denmark-Olar breezed by Blackville-Hilda at home to the tune of 73-44. Given Denmark-Olar's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Blackville-Hilda is ranked 254th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denmark-Olar's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tykeen Ross, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Terrance Hinton, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Ross is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Robert Bovain was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Calhoun County posted their biggest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They really took it to Wagener-Salley for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-20 victory at home. The win was just what Calhoun County needed coming off of a 85-50 loss in their prior matchup.
It was another big night for Kerron Scott, who scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Wallace, who scored 13 points.
Denmark-Olar's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Calhoun County, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Denmark-Olar hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.9 points per game. However, it's not like Calhoun County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Denmark-Olar didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Calhoun County in their previous matchup on January 2nd, but they still walked away with a 65-61 victory. Will Denmark-Olar repeat their success, or does Calhoun County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
