The Ridgefield Tigers will head out to take on the New Canaan Rams at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Ridgefield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Wednesday, Ridgefield beat Bridgeport Central 3-1.
Ridgefield walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). The final score came out to 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22.
Ridgefield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jackson Dell, who had 15 digs and two aces, and Adam Swiergosz, who had seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Dell has posted over his last ten games.
Meanwhile, New Canaan faced Staples in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Rams took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wreckers. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
New Canaan started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-18.
New Canaan's defeat dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Ridgefield, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Ridgefield has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.1 aces per game. However, it's not like New Canaan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ridgefield suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to New Canaan when the teams last played last Monday. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
