It was a good run, but the Kickapoo Chiefs unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Battle by a score of 63-61. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Kickapoo came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Battle is ranked 95th).
Leading Battle to victory were Tayla Robinson and Jaelynn Green. Robinson scored 18 points along with three steals, while Green scored 16 points. The game was Robinson's third in a row with at least ten points. Jaleah Brookins was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Kickapoo's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-1. As for Battle, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.
Kickapoo will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Carthage at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th. Battle will be home for the holidays to greet Benton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benton is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
