Rosemead hasn't had much luck against South El Monte recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Friday just wasn't the day for Rosemead's offense. They lost 15-0 to El Monte on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, South El Monte got themselves on the board against Gabrielino on Thursday, but Gabrielino never followed suit. They blew past Gabrielino 10-0. Considering South El Monte has won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Loreli Castrejon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Sofia Medina was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Gia Castruita was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
South El Monte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
South El Monte has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Rosemead, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
