It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Marietta Blue Devils ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 62-61 victory over Hillgrove. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Marietta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Frances Storey led the charge by scoring 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Storey has scored all season. Kayla Day was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine steals.
Marietta's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Hillgrove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Coincidentally, Marietta and the Hawks will both be playing the Indians the next time they take the court. Hillgrove will host McEachern at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Marietta will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
