Softball Recap: Yuma Wins Going Away Against Coronado

While Yuma didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Coronado Dons on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-2 win. Considering the Criminals have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Elia Palencia was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Saige Sievert was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Yuma is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.5 runs. As for Coronado, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yuma will host Dysart at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coronado, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cactus Shadows at 3:45 p.m. The Dons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
