The Sallisaw Black Diamonds pushed their score all the way to 48 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Fort Gibson. Sallisaw has struggled against Fort Gibson recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Sallisaw got some senior leadership from Brock Streun who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry and Cole Stephens who rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Streun was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Broque Oft, who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Fort Gibson can attribute much of their success to Parker Lockhart, who threw for 256 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 passes. Judd Rudd was another key contributor, rushing for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Sallisaw's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Fort Gibson, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Sallisaw will head out on the road to face off against Madill on Friday. As for Fort Gibson, they will be playing at home against Hilldale on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Hilldale is ranked 115th, while Fort Gibson is ranked 124th).
