If the Riverbend Bears were riding high off their 69-43 takedown of the Brooke Point Black Hawks last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Riverbend ended up on the wrong side of a tough 57-33 walloping at the hands of Massaponax on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Riverbend has scored all season.
Riverbend's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Alexander, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Long, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Riverbend struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Riverbend's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-4. As for Massaponax, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Mountain View the next time they take the court. Massaponax will head out to face Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Riverbend will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
