The Victory Christian Academy Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 54-14 defeat at the hands of Marquette Catholic. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Victory Christian Academy in their matchups with Marquette Catholic: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Victory Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Amariah Jankowski, who scored 12 points. Jankowski scored a full 85.7% of Victory Christian Academy's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Victory Christian Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Marquette Catholic pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Marquette Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laniah Davis led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The match was Davis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Robinson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Victory Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Marquette Catholic, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Victory Christian Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Kankakee Trinity Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Kankakee Trinity Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Marquette Catholic will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on New Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on December 21st.
