Softball Recap: Gibson Southern Wins Going Away Against Washington

Gibson Southern never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Washington on Saturday. They blew past the Hatchets 19-0. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kynlee Marshall and Carly Potts made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Marshall pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Potts struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. At bat, Marshall got on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs, while Potts went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Gibson Southern got a massive performance out of Wylei Jordan, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. Those three stolen bases gave Jordan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Scherer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Gibson Southern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gibson Southern's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Washington, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Gibson Southern didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-5 victory against Sullivan on the 10th. As for Washington, they will face off against Shoals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Jug Rox have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.67 runs per game on average), something the Hatchets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
