The Mishawaka Cavemen won the last time they faced the Elkhart Lions, and things went their way on Saturday too. Mishawaka had just enough and edged Elkhart out 48-45. Given Mishawaka's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Elkhart is ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Elkhart lost, one person who can't be blamed is Javeis Hines. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Trinton Harris was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Mishawaka is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Elkhart, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mishawaka and Wawasee will face off at 7:45 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wawasee is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Elkhart, they will head out on the road to face off against Bremen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
