It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Victory Christian Conquerors can now relate to. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 58-36 walloping at the hands of the Longhorns on Friday. Victory Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-24.
Several Conquerors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ayden Hamilton, who rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Hamilton has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last seven times he's played. Michael Doctor was in the mix too, providing Victory Christian with two touchdowns.
Clayton Creasey was his usual excellent self, throwing for 382 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries for Jones. Creasey was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Braydon Scott also helped out as he racked up 134 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Jones' defensive line and their four sacks. Brice King was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Victory Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Jones, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Victory Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Jones will square off against Washington at TBD on Friday. Washington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matches -- so hopefully Jones likes a good challenge.
